Why Uttar Pradesh hospitals are acting on NABH now
- The country's largest PMJAY network. The State Agency for Comprehensive Health and Integrated Services (SACHIS) runs AB-PMJAY in Uttar Pradesh. In September 2025 it reported 6,099 empanelled hospitals (2,921 government and 3,088 private), the highest number in India, and 5.38 crore Ayushman cards issued. With that many hospitals competing, quality certification is how one stands out: PMJAY quality certification pays a 10% incentive at the Silver level (NABH entry-level) and 15% at Gold (full NABH accreditation).
- SACHIS is enforcing. Outlook Money reported in July 2026 that SACHIS had fined 200 hospitals ₹1.16 crore for irregularities in treatment and Ayushman card issuance and suspended 48 for repeat violations, under a "zero tolerance" policy. Records kept the way NABH expects are the best protection in an audit; see PMJAY empanelment.
- State employees and pensioners. The Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay State Employees Cashless Medical Scheme, launched in July 2022, covers state employees, pensioners and their dependants, about 75 lakh people at launch. Private hospitals empanelled under it can treat beneficiaries up to ₹5 lakh.
- The CGHS rate gap. Since 13 October 2025, CGHS pays facilities without NABH 15% less than the NABH rate. Our CGHS analysis shows what that costs a hospital on the CGHS panel.

| Hospital emergency department | Emergency department certification |

Licences first
Uttar Pradesh is one of the states that has adopted the central Clinical Establishments Act, 2010, with registration and renewal through the state's Department of Medical Health and Family Welfare. The department sets renewal deadlines, and in 2024 it said renewals filed after 30 April would be treated as new applications. NABH assessors also check your fire NOC, biomedical waste authorisation from the UP Pollution Control Board, AERB registration for X-ray and CT, PC-PNDT registration for ultrasound and your drug licence. We audit these before anything else.

Frequently asked questions
Do you provide NABH consultancy in Lucknow and other UP cities?
Yes. We work across Uttar Pradesh, including Lucknow, Kanpur, Varanasi, Agra, Meerut, Prayagraj and Gorakhpur. The gap analysis, staff training and mock assessment are done on site, and documents and indicator reviews are supported remotely in between.
Is NABH mandatory for PMJAY empanelment in Uttar Pradesh?
No. A hospital can be empanelled under AB-PMJAY without NABH. But under PMJAY quality certification, NABH entry-level certification qualifies for the Silver level (10% incentive) and full NABH accreditation for the Gold level (15%), on top of the package rates.
Which clinical establishments law applies in Uttar Pradesh?
Uttar Pradesh is one of the states that has adopted the central Clinical Establishments (Registration and Regulation) Act, 2010. Registration and renewal go through the state's Department of Medical Health and Family Welfare, and NABH assessors check that registration along with your other licences.
Does the UP state employees' cashless scheme use private hospitals?
Yes. The Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay State Employees Cashless Medical Scheme, launched on 21 July 2022, covers state employees, pensioners and their dependants. Treatment is cashless without limit in government hospitals and up to ₹5 lakh in empanelled private hospitals.
How long does NABH take for a small hospital in Uttar Pradesh?
NABH requires three months of implementation before you apply, and the hospital must have been operational for six months. Small facilities usually reach entry-level certification in 4 to 6 months, and SHCO accreditation in 6 to 9 months.
